A Favorite Pastel Technique Tip

Turn up the sound for a tip about my pastel ground technique that I recorded for UART Paper at their request.

A Place to Breathe

The Central Coast of California is a favorite place to visit and paint. This is a view of Point Lobos from the south. Perfect, long afternoons and many pictures were taken there.

Road to Laguna

This vibrant painting was inspired by the rolling hills as you enter Laguna Beach from Hwy 133. Rolling hills and oak trees. The actual landscape can be quite dry, but if you drive through on a sunny day in the spring, you may catch this view.

Steps towards abstraction

Landscape paintings are about color, texture and composition. abstracting those things is such a joy!

On a Silver Platter

I just loved the shadows and the peculiar shades and palette. After I cut up the apple, I noticed it and thought it made an interesting and different still ife composition.

NUMU exhibition

Gold and Sky was part of an exhibition curated by Craig Krull at the New Museum Los Gatos in 2020.

My story during Covid

This video was requested for an exhibition, and really made me think hard at the time about what I had to say.

Gnarley

Christmas 2020 in Zion National Park. A heartbreaking, contemplative year with highest highs, and lowest lows. Getting tangled in these branches was where I needed to be.

Audio tells a bit of the process.

Patrick’s Point

A beautiful road trip and endless inspiration.

Intensity and Texture

A time lapse into the process of this painting, inspired by trees of The Huntington Gardens.
